James Clear is the author of Atomic Habits, a book that has won praise from some of the most respected thought leaders in the world. James is also an entrepreneur and teaches online courses on personal development through his company JamesClear.com. James has been featured by Forbes, Entrepreneur Magazine, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and more. He lives with his wife and two sons in Indianapolis, Indiana where he’s currently working on his next book.

The Life of James Clear

James Clear was born to two loving parents who were both educators but never pushed him or any of their children into following in their footsteps. James had a very happy childhood which included plenty of time outdoors playing sports like soccer and baseball – activities that were always encouraged at home because they could help James develop his talents and also be fun. James was a good student throughout school, but it wasn’t until college that he discovered the passion for academics that would lead to his future success. James started working to support himself when he was 16 years old, so money was always tight growing up. James Clear didn’t even get cable TV in his home until he was in his 20’s.

The Education and Work-Life

James went to college at The Ohio State University where James studied Health and Human Sciences (Psychology). James started working while still attending school, but through some fortunate circumstances, James landed a great job right out of college that would help James pay off his student loans within 2 years of graduating. James kept this job while starting a side business on the side which James would grow to over $5,000 in monthly revenue within 2 years. James’ growing family would eventually require James to get a full-time job so James transitioned from his previous company into James’ first role as an employee at other companies he had been working for. James has held roles in sales, marketing, product development, and business development. James learned many lessons while transitioning to traditional employment including one very important lesson James wishes he had known when James first started working; James was not meant for traditional work.


James suffered from anxiety throughout his life but it wasn’t until James added what James calls “The Daily Practice” into James’ life that James noticed James’ anxiety subsiding. James built this daily practice by building habits that James enjoyed, like exercise and meditation, in the morning before James started his day. James also discovered writing down James’ goals every evening was helping James make progress in achieving James’ goals daily. James learned early on through reading biographies of successful people like Benjamin Franklin James was amazed at how bad James’ life would have been had James not written down James’ goals every day. James started writing down James’ goals daily in 2007, and since then James has achieved many of the goals James set for himself. James also read biographies of athletes like Michael Jordan who talked about visualization as a technique that helped them achieve success James wished James had started doing when James was young. James discovered the power of visualization during crises James faced throughout his life but spending time visualizing daily James being happy in James’ future helped James become more positive and resilient which has led to many benefits including James enjoying very high levels of gratitude lately.

James Clear writes for James’ own site, JamesClear.com, and is also a contributor on Entrepreneur Magazine’s site with over 200 articles – all available for free.
